826 Boston, Northeastern University and John D. O’Bryant Presented at the NEWCA Conference


826 Boston Along with Northeastern University and John D. O’Bryant High School presented a roundtable discussion at the Northeast Writing Center Association Conference  entitled  “Complicating the Narratives of Community Engagement: The Story of the 826 Boston Writers’ Room, a Partnership between an Urban High School, a Nonprofit Youth Writing Center, and a University Writing Program”  Leading the discussion was Neal Lerner,Writing Program Director at Northeastern University, Belinda Walzer, Lecturer at Northeastern University, JoJo Jacobson , 826 Boston In School Program Manager and Johnny Sadoff, 826 Boston Commonwealth Corps In School Program Coordinator and Dave Barry from John D’Obryant High School

This roundtable discussion described the design and implementation of the 826 Writers Room at the O’Bryant. Following this discussion, participants discussed the potential for high school writing centers to build their schools’ writing cultures and the implications for community engagement as central to the stories writing centers might tell.
