Celebrate MLK!

During a 1959 speech entitled “The Future of Integration,” Dr. King remarked that,

“Human progress is neither automatic nor inevitable… Every step toward the goal of justice requires sacrifice, suffering, and struggle; the tireless exertions and passionate concern of dedicated individuals.”

He continued with a call to service: “This is a time for vigorous and positive action.” So let’s get going! Sign up with Boston Cares for volunteer projects this Monday, January 19th, from 10AM to 1PM at Madison Park High School. Be sure to download and complete this wavier if your are younger than eighteen!

In the meantime, jot down a few lines about a moment when you were struck by the spirited hard work of a friend or family member. Here’s a bit about Dr. King courtesy of Maya Angelou, for a dash of inspiration:

A whole man stood out
With a mellifluous voice
To bind the joints of cruelty.

With a heart of faith
He hoped
To resurrect his nation. -“Abudant Hope”
